Our hibiscus, banana plants and palm trees

We offer a wide range of hardy hibiscus which can be planted out in the ground or in a pot, will increase in size from year to year and will provide you with a stunning display of huge flowers, sometimes 20cm in diameter.

Hibiscus derived from the moscheutos cultivar thrive in full sun and require watering. When planted out, you can reduce this need for water by applying a generous layer of our hemp mulch available at the nursery. This is the technique we use on our parent plants planted out in the gardens of the nursery.

Every year, around the month of June, the hibiscus shoots make their appearance. Over the following few weeks, they can grow up to two metres in height. Once flowering begins, the branches are literally covered in buds and spectacular flowers. Fertiliser and water are vital to support this rapid growth and the large number of flowers the hibiscus carries over such a short period of time. Autumn colours are followed by the branches drying out during winter as the plant goes into its rest period. Having protected the root ball throughout the cold winter months, the dry branches back are cut back in the following spring, leaving room for the new growth to begin.

We have a selection of banana plants available, of which the lotus banana which is in flower in the photos on this page. It is a dwarf banana plant, attaining a maximum height of 2m and flowering on a trunk which has been protected from freezing for about two years. The flower can last for up to seven months, opening and closing each day.

Our palm trees are sown and grown in France, meaning that they are already hardy to our climate. When you buy from us, you are getting a palm tree that has been grown outdoors in the soil as opposed to in a greenhouse, one that is fully rooted in its pot and ready to be planted out in your garden or potted on into a bigger container.
